A-League Men: Luis Canga, Lachlan Barr and Oli Sail impress in Perth Glory’s 0-0 draw with Central Coast

For the first time since February, Perth Glory secured a clean sheet in an A-League Men’s game, as they claimed their first point of the season in a 0-0 draw. For the second week in a row, it was the defenders who caught the eye most. Luis Canga - 7: Glory’s best player for the second week running, although some would say he was fortunate to not give away a penalty late. Had good awareness of his surroundings and dealt with Alou Kuol easily. Lachlan Barr - 6.5: Forming a sturdy partnership with Canga. Looks a bit unsettled on the ball at times, but otherwise solid. Oli Sail - 6.5: Made a superb one-handed save inside the opening three minutes to keep Perth from going behind early. Was one of only two saves he had to make, but showing good signs early. Zach Lisolajski - 6.5: A promising shift at left-back from the centre-back-turned-full-back. Does not offer as much going forward as a natural full-back, but very solid defensively. Jarrod Carluccio - 6: The Mariners targeted his side, doubling up on him with Mikael Doka and Lucas Mauragis, but Carluccio did enough to not get exposed all game. Abdul Faisal - 6: Showed glimpses of his ability, although Brad Tapp and then Diesel Herrington were able to keep him contained during his time on the pitch. David Williams - 6: Probably not suited to playing on the wing at this stage of his career, but linked well with teammates a couple of times. Brandon O’Neill - 5.5: Won a few 50-50 balls, but the Glory need someone to link play in the middle of the park and that has never really been O’Neill’s game. Was not terrible, but also ceded a lot of ground in the middle of the park to his opponents. Adam Taggart - 5.5: Cut a visibly frustrated figure as he was starved of service and barely involved, particularly in the second half. Had a couple of half-chances, the second of which he pushed well wide. Looked good in the first half when he dropped deep to link play. Taras Gomulka - 5.5: Like O’Neill, was part of a midfield which had just 33 per cent of possession. Was admonished by Canga for receiving the ball with his back to goal and playing a simple bounce pass back rather than turning and attempting to play forward — and that encapsulates Glory’s midfield at the moment. Khoa Ngo - 5.5: Had a couple of nice moments where his agility stood out, but on the game’s periphery for most of it. Nathanael Blair - 5.5: Had one good chance late he shot straight at Dylan Peraic-Cullen. Adam Bugarija - 5.5: Unable to really make an impact as he struggled to get involved with the Mariners enjoying the lion’s share of possession. Nick Pennington - 5.5: Less impact than last week, but like his teammates, saw less of the ball. Hirokai Aoyama - 4: Had just eight touches in the first-half, before being subbed off at half-time for the third consecutive week. Occasionally moves into good spaces in between the lines but does not get the ball when he does. Has failed to make an impact in possession.
