AFL 2024: Collingwood reveals operating profit spike to $8.96m

Outgoing Collingwood president Jeff Browne says the “unrivalled passion” of supporters drove a bumper financial year for the club in 2024. The Magpies on Friday announced an operating profit of $8.96m for the financial year ending October 31 – a 49 per cent increase on the $6m profit in the 2023 premiership season. It came as the club again broke the AFL club membership record by reaching 110,628 paid-up supporters in 2024 and was freed from the costs of running the Super Netball side it controversially axed in June last year. The Magpies had deemed their elite netball program, which won a Super Netball licence in 2017, was “not sustainable” to run, citing issues with Netball Australia’s governance and direction. Browne, who will in December step down from the presidency after four years at the helm, thanked Collingwood’s members and sponsors for contributing to the financial result. “It is incredibly important for our football club to remain strong and profitable each year to allow us to reinvest in every aspect of Collingwood,” Browne said. “Our financial position empowers us to continue driving excellence across our elite men’s and women’s football programs while supporting vital community initiatives such as the Magpie Nest Program and Barrawarn Indigenous programs. “We led the league in attendance and set a new record for home-game crowds with 778,865 fans filling the stands at our games, demonstrating the unrivalled passion of Collingwood supporters. “Our success is a testament to the hard work of the board, our AFL and AFLW players, staff, and the incredible support of our members and supporters. Together, we’re poised to reach even greater heights in 2025. “As we look to the future, the club is guided by a clear strategy, ensuring we continue to deliver excellence across all areas of our operations, on and off the field.”
