Abdon has scored a 36th-minute penalty for Mallorca against Real Sociedad to maintain his side's solid start to the La Liga season.

The veteran striker, called Abdon Prats Bastidas but known simply as Abdon, secured the side's second win on Tuesday (Wednesday AEST) in Spain's top-tier competition.

Mallorca's 1-0 victory lifted them to sixth place in the standings, albeit having played a game more than most teams. They have two wins, two draws and two losses from their six matches.

Sociedad are 16th with just one win in six matches, with all the clubs below them having a game in hand.

Barcelona hold a four-point lead at the top of the table after a perfect start to the season, sitting on 15 points with five wins from as many matches.

Three sides - Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid and Villarreal - are tied for second place with 11 points, each side boasting three wins and two draws.
