How NRL merry-go-round could give Tigers space for May

David Klemmer's looming move to St George Illawarra could open the door for Wests Tigers to hand Taylan May an NRL lifeline.
One day after Dylan Brown's record $13 million deal at Newcastle, the NRL's player market merry-go-round looked set to go into overdrive on Tuesday.
The first domino to fall could be out-of-favour Dragons winger Mikaele Ravalawa.
Sighted only twice in the NRL since last May, Ravalawa was absent from Dragons training on Tuesday and believed to be undergoing a medical with South Sydney.
The Fijian international would likely be a handy early-season pick up for the Rabbitohs, who are facing something of a backline crisis with multiple injuries.
Beyond Ravalawa's situation, the NRL are also edging closer to making a call on how to handle Francis Molo's contract stand-off with the Dragons.
Molo has not returned to Dragons training since January, with the former Queensland State of Origin forward having taken a leave of absence.
The Dragons' 30 roster spots are full for 2025, but a resolution in the Molo matter or Ravalawa's exit would clear a spot for Klemmer's arrival.
Klemmer's exit would then free up salary-cap space for the Tigers to add to their roster, with depth desperately needed in Benji Marshall's outside backs.
The club are facing the potential of losing centre Justin Olam to a medical retirement, but any decision on that is unlikely to be made until late in the month.
May looms as a likely option for Marshall's team.
He had domestic-violence charges against him dropped in a Sydney court on Monday, after the wife he was accused of punching did not show up to court.
The 23-year-old had pleaded not guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm and two counts of stalking and intimidation, over alleged incidents in April and May.
The NRL has since confirmed the former Panther is cleared to return on the field, given his no-fault stand-down period has ended.
Taylan was in the crowd for the Tigers' opening-round loss to Newcastle, with his brother Terrell having moved to the club this year.
The brothers, along with ex-Penrith playmaker Tyrone May, have made no secret of their desire to one day play together in the NRL.
The Tigers have not commented publicly on the prospect of pursuing May.
Meanwhile, the joint-venture may also face a fight to retain young star Lachlan Galvin, after Brown's decision to move to Newcastle.
Galvin played juniors with Parramatta, and while he is contracted with the Tigers until the end of next year, has previously requested releases from the club.
Klemmer did not play NRL or NSW Cup for Wests Tigers last weekend, ensuring he is fit and available for when the likely move to the Dragons is completed.
His anticipated signing would come as a blessing for the Dragons, who started the season without their most powerful forward in Molo.
"Obviously he's a big body, good punch," Dragons centre Valentine Holmes said on Tuesday.
"We probably have missed that, obviously losing Frankie, just that bit of aggression and punch through the middle.
"I haven't heard anything. But I'm sure he'd be good."
