WA footy fans have voted with their feet in supporting the Indigenous All Stars concept, with 37,865 people descending on Optus Stadium to watch the pre-season spectacle on Saturday.
The stands were filled with a colourful mix of purple Fremantle jumpers with the bright yellow All Stars jerseys and Indigenous jumpers from teams across the league for the return of the representative side for the first time in a decade.
While the excitement of players to play alongside each other was evident, fans were equally thrilled to see the best of the country’s Indigenous talent together on the same team.
Faithful Fremantle fans Emily and Pip Gailbraith made the 100km trip from York to see the Dockers in action for the first time this year and said the special event needed to become a regular fixture again.
“We are here to support Freo and the ruckman for the Indigenous All Stars, young Coen Livingstone, is a York boy,” Emily said.
“The atmosphere here is amazing, we have run into heaps of people who we wouldn’t normally see at a Dockers game because they support West Coast or another team and it’s really great.
“They need to do this more often, maybe they could play a WA team one year and the next a South Australian team and so on.”
“It’s good to see the Indigenous talent that’s out there and it all to be in one team and play together and the chemistry they’ve got is absolutely insane,” Pip said.
“It’s good to see everyone yet together and support everyone.”

Past and current Indigenous players and their families came from all over the state to watch the biggest stars in the game in action.
It was clear how much the game meant not just to the players but to the fans who have been starved of football over the summer.
The atmosphere among the crowd had a festival feel, with fans supporting moments of brilliance of players from both teams.

The turnout was described as ‘magnificent’ by fan Steve Jones, who had come along to soak up the excitement of the occasion.
“Everyone is here to support football in general and its a great spectacle,” Jones said.
“The Dockers are hanging in there and they’ve got more to come too because they are missing a few players - a couple are playing for the Indigenous side but it’s a good game.”
