Hill to play 50th AFL game against former club GWS

Collingwood coach Craig McRae is confident Bobby Hill's best is ahead of him as the electric small forward prepares for his 50th AFL game against his former club.

A year ago, Hill underwent surgery for testicular cancer and did not play another AFL game for the 2022 season.

During last year's trade period, the 23-year-old got his wish and moved from GWS to the Magpies.

It was Hill's desire to be closer to family in Melbourne after partner Georgia gave birth to the couple's son, Bobby Jr, in December 2021.

Hill has been a handy addition to the ladder-leading Magpies, playing all eight games this year, including two hauls of three goals.

On Sunday, he will line-up against the Giants, who he made 41 appearances for at the MCG for his milestone game.

"We're really excited for Bobby," McRae said.

"I think Bobby's future will be better than what it is in the present.

"I think he's going to continue to improve in our system and environment.

"He had his illness last year, cancer and recovering from that and then it gets opportunity and it just works out he's playing his old team for his 50th.

"We'll put our arms around him love and support him and we're looking forward to him showing the footy world what he's good at."

Collingwood (7-1) will be hoping Hill can recapture his dynamic early season form after going goal-less during his last three matches.

They will particularly need him to step up if captain Darcy Moore doesn't overcome a skin infection in his elbow.

The star defender missed Collingwood's main session on Friday but trained on Saturday and is expected to play against the Giants.

John Noble (corked thigh) is in doubt but the Magpies are adamant Jordan De Goey will play despite the superstar mid-forward missing Saturday's light session.

Moore's opposing captain, Toby Greene, will miss a second straight match with an ankle injury after withdrawing from their squad on Friday night.

The Giants superstar missed last week's game against the Western Bulldogs with an ankle injury but was named by coach Adam Kingsley when the extended squads were released on Thursday night.

GWS enter the match 13th with a 3-5 record.
