Labor pledge $500,000 to upgrade Treendale playground and rebuild popular Collie River fishing platform

Half a million dollars to upgrade a Treendale playground and rebuild the popular Collie River fishing platform have been promised as part of Labor WA’s State election push. Collie Preston MLA Jodie Hanns announced last week, a re-elected Labor government would deliver $350,000 to upgrade the existing play equipment at Virgo Brace in Treendale and $150,000 to rebuild the northern part of the Collie River Bridge fishing platform in Australind. The upgrades would include new play equipment for young children to improve sensory and motor skill development, as well as new shade sails. Ms Hanns said the Treendale community was growing, attracting more young families to the area who need appropriate places to play. “While door knocking in Treendale over the last four years, I spoke to many families who identified the need for this popular park to receive much-needed upgrades,” she said. “I’m very pleased to be able to respond to community.” Shire of Harvey president Michelle Campbell said she was thrilled to see the project on the radar with the State Government with the upgrades sorely needed. “Virgo Brace Playground is a popular place for young families in Treendale South, but it needs accessible play equipment and more shade so children can have fun in comfort,” she said. “With these much-needed infrastructure upgrades, we can ensure local children have a great place to play and make friends.” The Collie River fishing platform, on the northern side of the jetty, is closed to fishers and pedestrians after falling into disrepair. “Recreational fishing is an incredibly popular pastime right across our State, and this commitment will provide another great opportunity for outdoor fun in the Australind region,” Ms Hanns said. “Importantly, in addition to providing recreational fishers another place to cast a line, the restored bridge will also act as a great boost for our local tourism industry.” The shire has set aside $25,000 to help the project, Ms Campbell said.
