Julia Teakle joins younger sister Tiani in flying WAFLW start for East Fremantle

Mid West product Julia Teakle has got her WAFLW career off to a flying start, kicking half East Fremantle’s goals as they beat 2021 grand finalists Swan Districts by seven points on Saturday.

Teakle was top scorer for the Sharks in her first game, kicking three majors as they won 6.3 (39) to 4.8 (32) at New Choice Homes Park.

Dad Grant Teakle said it was a good day out.

“It’s a pretty good outcome,” Grant said.

“At full-forward she was playing a bit out of position from where we’re used to, but still pushed up the ground and got some nice goals.”

Julia’s younger sister Tiani, 15, played her second game for East Freo on Saturday, turning out in round two of the development-focused Rogers Cup.

She was at centre half-back as the Sharks won a second match in a row, 10.5 (65) to 6.6 (42).

Tiani will play a State under-16s trial game this weekend and will not feature for the Sharks.

Courtney Zappara, ex-Brigades, kicked a goal and a behind for Swan Districts reserves. She now has two goals in two games in ressies.

Ex-Chapman Valley player Kaylee King is understood to have sustained a fracture playing for Swan Districts in round one and did not feature on the weekend.

King and Julia Teakle shared the Great Northern women’s fairest and best award in 2021.

The Teakle family has moved from the Mid West to Perth, with Julia studying physiotherapy at the University of Notre Dame.

Older brother Bohan Teakle is at Swan Districts in the WAFL, while cousin Brynn Teakle is playing for East Fremantle.
