City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder enters into option deed for potential sale and development of prime CBD land

A development that would “energise the CBD” in Kalgoorlie could be one step closer as the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder enters an option deed for the potential sale of a significant parcel of land. Councillors debated behind closed doors at Monday night’s meeting regarding 101 Brookman Street — the former Kmart and Coles site — where it was approved for the chief executive to enter into an option deed for the land. While the proponents of the potential development and the estimated price tag are kept confidential for now, mayor Glenn Wilson said this was a “proactive step” that allowed the city and proponent to start forming an agreement to buy the property, with some conditions. The matter would come back before the council before a sale is progressed. “This is a key site in the heart of our central business district, and we want to ensure its future development aligns with the city’s long-term vision for economic growth and activation,” Mr Wilson said. “We’re excited to see that this site has got interest. “This particular proposal would help energise the CBD.” Mr Wilson said while deed options often ran over 180 days, a reduced time frame had been endorsed by the council, but could not yet be made public. In December, the council approved the city entering into discussions with this developer, who had approached the city with a market-led proposal. It came after a previous developer had expressed interest but pulled out after completing due diligence. The site is now fully owned by the city after German discount supermarket giant Aldi sold its half of the land.
