Video footage has captured the terrifying moment a Qantas flight was forced to make a “priority landing”, with passengers told to keep their “heads down”.

Qantas flight QF1929 left Brisbane Airport about 8.20am on Tuesday and was headed for Adelaide when it needed to turn back about 40 minutes into the flight.

A passenger has recorded the terrifying moment a Qantas flight was forced to make an emergency landing at Brisbane Airport.

Passengers were reportedly told to keep their “head’s down” during the landing, according to a video posted to social media by 4BC Brisbane.

“Stay down, heads down,” a flight attendant can be heard yelling out as the video pans to the runway while the plane lands.

In the footage passengers can be seen in the brace position.

A man can be seen putting his hand to his head as the flight attend continues to call out instructions.

It’s understood this is standard practice for issues relating to landing gear.

A Qantas spokesperson revealed a mechanical issue was at fault.

“A flight from Brisbane to Adelaide returned to Brisbane shortly after takeoff due to an issue with landing gear brakes,” the spokesperson said.

“The aircraft landed normally and is being checked by engineers.

“We understand that this would have been a distressing experience for customers and we thank them for following the instructions of the crew.”

The spokesperson said Qantas are “working hard to get customers on their way as quickly as possible”.

“We will follow up with all customers to provide our support,” the spokesperson said.

It’s understood pilots were notified of a park brake indication issue, however the brakes didn’t fail.

The aircraft is set to be checked by engineers before being returned to service.
