A community member and State Emergency Service volunteers rescued a trapped Jack Russell in Boddington and reunited it with its owner after it got stuck halfway into a 20m stormwater pipe on Friday.

The Boddington SES unit rushed to free the dog from a concrete stormwater pipe on Colin Street after receiving a triple-0 call from its worried owner at 9.40am.

The dog had ventured into the pipe between the road and a driveway, but the space was too tight to come back out.

Three SES volunteers arrived at 10.30am to find the dog lodged about 10m into a 20m long concrete pipe, which could not be reached despite hearing it bark and spotting the Jack Russell with flashlights.

A community member volunteered their excavator and joined the operation, after an SES member used a shovel to dig around the pipe to create more space for rescue efforts.

An SES spokesperson said the small excavator was instrumental in dislodging a section of the concrete pipe and the machinery vibrations enabled the dog to shift and free itself.

After nearly two hours in the pipe, the Jack Russell was reunited with its grateful family.

The SES spokesperson said the incident ended with relief and gratitude from all involved.
