The Geraldton Amateur Swimming Club played host to the Ocean Air Short Course Classic over the weekend with 132 swimmers competing from around Western Australia.

The event featured competitors from 17 clubs, including Albany, Kalgoorlie, Karratha, Newman and Perth.

Committee member for the Geraldton Amateur Swimming Club, Bruce McDonald, said their members had been training extremely hard over the past eight months under the senior coaching of Mary Lynas and Claire McPherson.

It was a successful weekend for the locals, with 33 swimmers from Geraldton participating in 216 events, winning 76 medals and achieving 32 State qualifying times.

At the completion of each day there was a “dash for cash” event and team relays. These events got the large crowd at the Aquarena off their seats and the races were very tight.

McDonald said the club would like to thank all of the local sponsors and volunteers that made the event possible.
