Vintage pair to share love and advice
Love and laughter will sweep the Mid West when stage show Barbara and Barry’s Sweet, Sour and Saucy hits Jurien Bay, Coorow, Sandstone and Cue later this month and in early September.
Melissa Western and Tnee Dyer, aka Barbara and Barry, will dispense questionable love advice on their talkback radio show with a mix of jazz music and an ocker touch.
Notable songs by Eartha Kitt, Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Bessie Smith and Nat King Cole will feature, bringing a jazz-cabaret feel to the show.
The production has been a successful sell-out at the Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts in Queensland, and a five-star hit at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
The production is part of the Shows on the Go program, which is presented by Country Arts WA and health promotion and consultant organisation Healthway.
Country Arts WA and Healthway have partnered up to co-ordinate and support the production and are delighted the show is touring.
“Creative and engaging shows like Barbara and Barry’s Sweet, Sour and Saucy give regional families a terrific opportunity to get together, enjoy great entertainment and celebrate what it means to Act-Belong-Commit,”
Healthway acting executive director Maree De Lacey said.
Actress Western said she was very happy to be selected for the Shows on the Go program.
“When Country Arts WA told us we were chosen by WA communities to be part of the 2017 Shows on the Go program, we were very excited,” she said.
“We can’t wait to bring our vintage talkback radio love show to everyone in regional WA.”
The travelling act will appear in the Mid West on August 26 at Jurien Sport and Recreation Centre at 7pm; August 29 at Coorow District Hall at 7pm; August 31 at Sandstone Town Hall at 6.30pm; and September 2 at Cue Community Hall at 7pm.
