Victim of Jurien Bay shark attack remains in stable condition in Royal Perth Hospital after multiple surgeries

The Japanese tourist who was attacked by a shark off Jurien Bay last week remains in a stable condition at Royal Perth Hospital after receiving multiple life saving surgeries. The 46-year-old woman was airlifted to Perth after the attack on Monday, February 26. A RPH spokesperson said the victim had a long road of recovery ahead. The attack happened during a sea lion tour with local tourism operators, Turquoise Safaris. Skipper and owner of the company Kane Krollig said they had seen a shark at the designated mooring spot earlier in the morning just after 7am. Four-and-a-half hours later, the crew returned with a boat full of experienced swimmers but chose to relocate for safety purposes. Mr Krollig took his customers to a patch which was clear and sandy, so there was better visibility for his spotters on shark-watching duties. Around 11.30am, the Japanese woman was bitten on the lower half of her left leg by what is believed to be a tiger shark. She was taken out of the water by crew, while they applied a tourniquet to her leg — Mr Krollig said the boat was back in the marina within 15 minutes.
