Upgrades unveiled for Exmouth’s Town Beach as eclipse preparation continues
With less a month until tens of thousands of visitors make their way into Exmouth for the solar eclipse, efforts continue to ensure the town is in top condition, with new upgrades to Exmouth’s Town Beach the latest project unveiled by the State Government.
The upgrades include new shade structures, boardwalk decking, fences, irrigation, lawns, a drinking fountain and waste facilities.
The beach will be the setting for a drone show during the Dark Sky Festival, and the Government has said the location will be a “drawcard” for the town during the eclipse festivities.
Regional Development Minister Don Punch said the upgrades would give Exmouth a boost which would be felt long after the eclipse is over.
“While the moment of totality during the eclipse is 62 seconds, the announcement of over $22 million committed from the WA Government to this event provides a legacy for the region lasting for years to come,” he said.
Tourism Minister Roger Cook said the upgrades were part of the Government’s plan to let the Exmouth and the region take full advantage of the eclipse.
“This event is a rare opportunity to showcase WA to the world as a premium tourism and astrotourism destination and we are working hard to help make it a safe and enjoyable experience,” Mr Cook said.
“While the phenomenon on 20 April is the main event, there is lots happening in the region.”
