Suiside split results in double-header weekend as Pi’s continue impressive form in Geraldton softball

Division 1 men’s Suiside side took down the in-form Martians side in an impressive display on Saturday as they continue to recapture their title-winning form from last year. Martians fared well early on, with Damon Valenti scoring an impressive home run, getting three runs across the plate but it was not enough to stop the resurgent Suiside team. Early safe hits from Liam Meharry, Seth Devlin and Jack Garland with a solid hit from Tyler Corlett gave Suiside an early lead. Suiside could not replicate their form in the second game of their double-header against Rams, going down to a 9-1 defeat. All the Rams’ runs came from errors with Suiside unable to get more than two safe hits, leaving the men’s ladder still wide open with the top spot swapping on a game-to-game basis. In the women’s games, Pi’s continued their winning ways against Midwest Marlins taking the win 7-4. Jodi Reed and Janelle Phillips were once again solid in the outfield, taking multiple catches and providing quick throws to keep Marlins from getting any traction while at bat. Pitcher Natalie Wisewould pitcher was happy with her team’s progress through the game and through the season. “I feel like we are really starting to come together as a team continuing to rally a few good plays and at-bats, it feels good to be on a winning streak,” she said. Suiside took down Rams in the other first division one women’s game, taking an inspiring 21-20 victory. Rams took an early lead, but Suiside came back strong with four early runs as the score seesawed through the next few innings with both sides managing to pick safe hits through the outfield. Jaytana Jones sprinted in the winning run for Suiside from a fine hit from Asura Cartwright to seal a marathon win. In the second division, Midwest Marlins women defeated the Martians 9-8. The game was tight and was all even after three innings before the runs flowed in the fourth as Martians scored four runs while Marlins grabbed five in what proved to be a decisive inning. Suiside women put on a batting display in windy conditions against Pi’s scoring 21 runs against Pi’s 5. Susan Munday pitched a great game and led in the batting averages, hitting at every bat. Martians Red women had an unfortunate game against Blaze going down 29 runs to 2 as rookie Summer Palmer once more showed great form for Blaze. In men’s division 2 Marlins defeated Martians Black 13-11. Martians had the game on their terms after taking eight runs in the first inning but mistakes cost them later in the game. Martians Red fell to an impressive and well-ordered Blaze side, 20-5, as multiple fielding errors cost Martians the game. Suiside posted a five-all draw with the Rams.
