Shire of Dandaragan seeks nominations for Jurien Bay working group to plan recreational centre redevelopment

The Shire of Dandaragan is seeking interest from locals to participate in redeveloping the Jurien Bay Recreation Precinct by joining a working group following increased demand for the facilities. Residents are being called on to join a working group that will assist in preparing a master plan for the recreation precinct and guide future redevelopment activities, consider opportunities strengthening club sustainability and identify new opportunities that address future needs of the district. The working group will be made up of eight people who will provide advice and recommendations to council surrounding the precinct master plan, including community, cultural, recreational and event infrastructure assets, and enhance community voice in decision-making and outcomes on the project. In May, the Shire signed a discussion paper about the project, providing a long-term vision for the precinct. Working Group chair Maddi McDonald said the age of the facilities was beginning to show and the town was starting to see an increase in user groups, particularly basketball and netball clubs. “We want to create a diverse environment where all ages, sporting groups and people from different socio economic backgrounds can come together and plan for the centre’s future,” she said. Ms McDonald said it was important to make sure no one was over-represented and hoped the group would bring world class facilities to the coastal town. “Jurien Bay has the opportunity to start from scratch, which is why its important to have all the relevant sporting groups involved,” she said. Nomination forms can be submitted before Sunday, July 30 and will be considered by the CEO and Ms McDonald. The Shire of Dandaragan is also seeking public comment on a revised draft for Jurien Bay’s urban design plan, guiding future development opportunities in the coastal town, enhancing the vibrancy and livability, addressing community and business needs and attracting visitors. The project began in November 2022 and has reached its final design and planning stage and now the Shire is seeking public comment on the revised plan. Some of the key moves identified in the plan include bringing the coast to the CBD, expanding the green footprint, connecting the area with footpaths and making the CBD more unified.
