The Morawa Tigers have snapped their five-game losing streak with an upset 15.13 (103) to 12.10 (82) win over reigning premiers Carnamah Perenjori.

Morawa had been in a slump over recent weeks in the North Midlands Football League, with the side dropping five straight after picking up back-to-back wins in rounds five and six.

The squad managed to break their run against a Carnamah side who were coming off a 77-point loss from the week before and now fall to third on the ladder.

The Kangaroos had no answer for Tiger Clayton Dongara, who slotted seven goals in the win for Morawa. Lucas Brockman and Brent Payne each added two goals as well.

While for Carnamah, Kobi Sellar’s three goals could not get the squad over the line, along with Caleb Antonovich, Joseph Iaria and Rylie Poultney each kicking two.

It was looking like another upset was on the cards over at Dongara, but Three Springs clutched up late with two behinds to take the 10.10 (70) to 10.8 (68) win.

The Eagles pushed the ladder leaders right into the fourth quarter, but the Bombers took home the choccies with late behinds in the final term giving them the lead.

Jerome McIntosh and Kamalh Papertalk kicked three goals each for Three Springs, while four goals from both Lester Drummond and Dale Williamson were not enough for Dongara.

Mingenew could not get the job done at home, going down to Coorow-Latham 13.11 (89) to 11.11 (77).

The Bulldogs managed to also break a five-game losing streak last week but end up back in the losers’ column against the Magpies.

Tyler Hupping was the match winner with four goals for Coorow, assisted by two from Tim Keeffe.

With just three rounds left to play before finals begins, the fourth spot is still very much up for grabs with Dongara, Mingenew and Morawa all in the hunt.

The Eagles hold the clear advantage with 22 points to the Bulldogs’ and Tigers’ 12, but a lot can happen in three weeks.

The Bombers, Magpies and Kangaroos have all locked down their spot in the top four, but their positions are yet to be solidified, with eight points separating first and third.

Carnamah are back at home and will look to redeem their loss when the side faces Dongara, Three Springs host Mingenew and Morawa will look to cause another upset when they travel to play Coorow-Latham in round 13 of the NMFL.
