Mitchell to represent WA at nationals
A Dongara District High School Year 6 student will represent WA in the 2017 cross-country team.
Mitchell Keene, 12, will compete in his year group at the School Sports Australia National Championships in Hobart from August 10 to 14.
The young runner has been been champion boy in his age group in every inter-house cross-country carnival since Year 1.
Since Year 3, he has represented Dongara High at the Interschool Eneabba Cross Country Carnival and has continued to place first for his age at every event.
Mitchell was selected to represent WA after placing sixth at the State Secondary School Boys Cross Country Competition.
Dongara District High School principal Janine Calver said it was all very exciting.
“Mitchell is very excited to be representing WA and travelling to Hobart to compete,” she said.
“The students and staff are also thrilled for him.”
His parents, Janelle and Russell Keene, were granted a $400 travel subsidy from the Shire of Irwin to assist with travel costs.
Mitchell is dedicated to his training program and can be found racing through the locality of Springfield every day.
