Lucky escape for Perth driver as car plunges from bridge in Mid West
Morawa police have urged metropolitan motorists to drive to their abilities after a “nervous” Perth driver accidentally drove off a bridge near Mingenew.
Police say the 41-year-old woman was driving in a hire car to Geraldton Airport about 4.30pm last Wednesday when she spotted a truck attempting to cross the bridge she was on.
According to police, the woman was “not a confident country driver,” and moved over too far to the side, driving straight off the bridge and rolling on to the riverbed below.
“She was able to climb her way out, climb to the top of the bridge and raise the alarm to a passer-by who contacted police,” Morawa sergeant Paul Featherstone said.
“She required medical attention, but she was not badly injured.”
Sgt Featherstone said people not familiar with country driving should be conscious of their surroundings and drive to their abilities.
“We just need people to drive to the conditions,” he said.
