Lotterywest grant will help Streeties to two 12-seater vehicles to support vulnerable Geraldton residents

A Geraldton organisation will boost its service delivery in a bid to improve community wellbeing after receiving a Lotterywest grant worth more than $120,000 for more transport options for vulnerable families and youth.

The Geraldton Streetwork Aboriginal Corporation (Streeties) has received a $120,092 grant from Lotterywest to go towards the purchase of two 12-seater buses to increase its support radius.

The vehicles will support outreach for young people on the streets at night, family social and wellbeing support, support for social activities and group activities for women and parents.

Streeties CEO Chloe Collard said the organisation was overwhelmed to be given the grant, which will support it to enhance outdated services and improve the response to community needs.

“Our primary focus is to support young people and families, and over the past few years outdated resources have hindered our quality of service,” she said.

“The purchase of these vehicles will allow us a reliable avenue of transport to families who are engaging in programs that we deliver, or access to programs within community.”

Geraldton MP Lara Dalton said purchasing the vehicles would improve the quality and efficiency of the services while allowing more community involvement.

Streeties plans to use one of the vehicles to provide outreach services to vulnerable youth.
