La Fiamma continue to do all they can to keep the flicker of promotion hopes alive after a comfortable 3-1 win over Kalamunda United.

With just nine points left on the table coming into Saturday, the Reds needed to grab all that was on offer and hope other results went their way to help close the five-point gap to second-placed Foorestfield and promotion.

Kalamunda have won just four games all season, earning just three points in their past five matches, and are the only team outside of the top five the Reds will have come up against in their last five fixtures.

With every week do or die now the Reds simply had to win and did just that in a commanding performance as they took a 1-0 lead into half-time.

La Fiamma’s defence has been miserly, giving up just one goal in its past four fixtures, but Kalamunda would get one back here.

But the Reds’ attack was on song, firing through two goals in the second half to secure their fourth victory in five games.

Baldivis did drop points as the Reds closed to within two points but their opponents were Cracovia who stay four points ahead, while Forrestfield also won to maintain their five-point gap.

With just two rounds left, the Reds have the advantage of playing both Cracovia and Forrestfield in their remaining fixtures but will need Forrestfield to lose next week to have any hope of promotion.

They may have a tough ask securing the three points in their last away trip against Cracovia this weekend.

Cracovia have won their past seven matches and will be just as desperate to keep their hopes alive with a much more realistic chance of promotion, sitting just one point off Forrestfield.

The reserves lost their clash 3-2 earlier in the evening as they remain ninth on the ladder.
