Ivan Joseph James Walley fined $400 after being found with “small quantity” of amphetamine

A Geraldton man has faced court for possessing a “small quantity” of amphetamine.

Ivan Joseph James Walley on Thursday pleaded guilty to one charge of possessing a prohibited drug.

Prosecutor Sgt Beau Jones told the court Walley was arrested in Wandina at 9.15am on March 22 on other matters, with a search of the 40-year-old uncovering a “clear liquid” in a 1ml syringe. Upon testing, the substance was determined to be amphetamine.

Magistrate Brie Ayling said although he had been found with a “very small quantity” of the drug, he should not have had any prohibited substances on his person.

She said it was important the offences did not escape sentencing to help deter future offending. Walley was fined $400 and ordered to pay $259.30 in court costs.

He will appear in the same court on other matters on September 6.
