Both T20 games in last Sunday’s Young Motors Women’s Cricket League were one-sided.

The results were not unexpected as there is a gulf between the competition’s best and bottom two sides and with the grand final nearing, the top two were not benevolent.

At Wonthella, Towns captain Ruth Vorster won the toss and bowled and her side did well to hold Sportsmans to 6-90 with runs from Amanda Gundry (16), Sarah Prickett (22) and Tia Hatch (28).

Indiana Burns (3-13) was the best of the bowlers and gave Towns a great start with two wickets in her first over.

Towns’ hopes of an upset were scuppered when Hatch (3-3) bowled Dirannie Kirby while Jo Walker had Emma Harris stumped by Prickett.

Wickets kept falling with Isabelle MacPherson (2-5) and Jess Wake (2-1) also feasting as Towns were ripped out for just 28.

Wanderers defeated Chapman Valley-Northampton at GBSC Park by 59 runs after Olivia Bidwell won the toss and sent Valley into bat.

Sam Biddiscombe (2-1 off four overs) reaped a double reward in the opening over with the key wicket of Kylie Bremner, caught by keeper Charli Bidwell, followed next ball by Chloe Phillips who was bowled.

CVN needed runs from Kate Clarkson but she was caught behind off Olivia Bidwell and though there was some resistance from Charlene Miller and Tarni Screaigh, neither made it to double figures.

Abby Green (2-9) helped end the innings at 7-52 and also ran out Jess Cocker while Olivia and Charlie Bidwell combined for another run out.

Wanderers replied with 5-111 with four of those five dismissals being retirements.

The sole wicket taken by a bowler, a good one, went to Bremner who bowled Meg Spalding though Screaigh, who only conceded four runs off her four overs, also bowled well.

There were runs from Charli Bidwell (29), which took her past 500 career runs, Olivia Bidwell (16), Green (26) and Biddiscombe (17 not out).
