Geraldton Police quickly caught up with an early morning hoon after they received a tip-off that a motorist was doing burnouts through the CBD on Tuesday.

The incident was reported by a member of the public to Geraldton police, who said there was a vehicle driving erratically and doing burnouts throughout the CBD and letting off smoke around roundabouts.

The vehicle’s registration plates were captured on CCTV camera, which led police to a Beresford home and to speak to a 27-year-old man.

Geraldton police operations manager and acting Sgt Reece Marjoram said the man was driving a Mazda utility, which police seized for 28 days under anti-hoon laws. The man’s driver’s licence was automatically suspended.

“They (police) found him 40 minutes later as he was arriving home,” Sgt Marjoram said.

Sgt Marjoram said the behavior was not common around Geraldton.

The man was charged with reckless driving and excess 0.08 and is due to face court on May 13.
