Race fans will get to see whether local horse The Chaser lives up to his namesake at Geraldton Turf Club tomorrow after coming close at the last meeting.

The four-year-old is entered for race one at the club’s midweek meet, the 1400m Geraldton Party Hire Maiden. Experienced hoop Natasha Faithfull, pictured, will be aboard.

The same pair ran second in a maiden at Ladies Day two Sundays ago, just behind Jade McNaught on Red Cadillac.

The signs are good — Faithfull had a win and a second placing at her last meeting, at Kalgoorlie on Sunday, and trainer Willie Parker will be hoping the pair go one better for The Chaser’s first win in his eight starts.

McNaught will be on six-year-old Take Another Look in the race, which finished second at Moora this month.

Faithfull has four other rides on the card, Arabian Riches, Reidy, Aurman Zou and Time Starts Now.

Perhaps her best chance for a win lies with the Rhona MacPhilomey-trained Aurman Zou in race six, a horse boasting a good record at the track and distance.

Megadon will be running in race eight, the 1600m handicap, for Gingin-based trainer Ashley Maley, a regular at Geraldton.

The seven-year-old had a win at Belmont in August over the same distance and ran third on Ladies Day.

Geraldton trainer Sean Rains will be looking for more from Heritage Sash, who finished fourth over 1200m on Ladies Day.

The six-year-old is due to run in race five, the 1100m handicap.

Karnup-based trainer Adam Durrant, who had four wins in five starts on Ladies Day, has seven runners entered.

The midweek event is the last on the turf club’s calendar before its Melbourne Cup day meet.

Turf club chair Brian O’Dwyer praised the “fashions, the magnificent crowd, the colour, and exciting racing” on Ladies Day.

O’Dwyer also announced upgrades to the stables area.

The turf club has 20 meets on its calendar this season, including the Walkaway and Geraldton cups and the Batavia Sprint.
