Denison Foreshore Sprint and Mid West Show and Shine sees more than 7000 people visit the Shire of Irwin

The Shire of Irwin had another massive weekend during the annual Foreshore Sprint and Mid West Show and Shine, with more than 7000 people turning out to witness more than 60 cars race along the beach front. On Sunday, September 24, one of the region’s hottest events was held along Port Denison Foreshore, offering a place for the community to show off their vintage cars. The Denison Foreshore Sprint is a speed trial for cars built prior to 1985 and saw more than 7000 people join the fun at the family-friendly event. Jake Rebrovic’s 360 Valiant Charger, Randle Beavis’ Wolseley, Tim Corr’s Ford Escort, Don Behets’ Thunderbolt and Tony Brett’s Westfield sports car were just some of the 60 or so vintage vehicles entered in this year’s competition. Timed racing events were held throughout the day, while a car exhibition featuring a number of done up cars were propped along the foreshore. BMX bikes and Harley Davidson motorcycles performed stunt demonstrations throughout the day and sent smoke and adrenaline through the crowd during burnouts. There was plenty of food stalls and activities to go around, keeping the kids entertained all day long. Hugh Gallagher posted to Facebook thanking the organisers for a great day. “A wonderful day of top shelf motor sport in a great location driven by many committed people,” he said. Cairo Maverick said it was his second year coming up from Perth to volunteer at the event. “Perfect weather today and some awesome cars and wicked driving. By the way, does anyone happen to know roughly how much HP that green Ford has? The smoke shows from the rear tyres were fun to see,” he said.
