Country folk are the face of city lights

Visitors to Perth are invited to check out a slide show of large portraits of Kimberley, Gascoyne, Mid West and Wheatbelt people on the Yagan Square Digital Tower, the former water tank near Perth Station.

Denmark photographer Nic Duncan said she spent six months on the road with no set route and no time frame gathering the 92 images.

“I am a professional photographer so I went looking for people to photograph,” she said. “We targeted the back roads and small towns.”

Ms Duncan explained the exhibition title “Beyond the Traffic Lights”. “It’s about leaving the city and that last set of lights as we head into the bush, that feeling of freedom of being outside the city and the traffic lights,” she said.

Beyond the Traffic Lights will be screened several times each day. Nic Duncan was 2015’s AIPP WA Professional Portrait Photographer of the Year.
