Convincing wins in first round of GNFL’s 2022 season

Thumpings were the order of the weekend as the GNFL opened its 2022 season, with a series of convicning results.

In the opening game, Rovers smashed Towns 14.16 (100) to 2.1 (13) on Friday night at WA Country Builders Stadium.

Towns produced a promising first quarter, leading 12-4 at the break, however things quickly changed.

Rovers came out of the blocks in the second quarter piling on seven unanswered goals to put the match out of reach.

Rovers kept their opponents scoreless for the rest of the game, while adding seven more goals to their tally.

Best on ground for Rovers included Christopher Scott, Gabriel Parfitt, Glen Prosser, Shannon Cox and Joshua Simpson.

On Saturday afternoon, Brigades faced off against Railways in a grand final rematch at GBSC Sports Park.

The premiers were too good for Railways in the end, finishing 17.14 (116) to 9.2 (56) winners.

After an evenly matched first term with just nine points separating the sides, Brigades pulled away in the second quarter and didn’t let up.

Jayden Schofield kicked five goals for Brigades and Sam Perkusich added three.

Jesse Casselton, Jack Deschamp and Ben Bockman were also standouts for Brigades.

In the final game of the round, Chapman Valley hosted Northampton at Mazzuchelli Oval, with the Rams prevailing 19.7 (121) to 7.9 (51).

Nathaniel Mourambine had a game to remember kicking eight goals, while Beau Walker also joined in on the fun with five.

Aidan Bartolo, Braden Jupp, Tyler Caddy, Nathaniel Mourambine and Ethan Brown stood out for the Rams in a dominant performance.
