Having arrived in the district just after Easter this year, I have been busy meeting various stakeholders, government representatives and the greater community, listening to what is important to them, and how our district management team can best lead and support our community.

I have been impressed by the sheer hard work and enthusiasm of our police officers in this district, from Carnarvon in the north, Meekatharra in the east, and Jurien Bay in the south.

Our biggest population centres of Geraldton and Carnarvon continue to be a focus for us as we strive to make a positive difference every day. We live and work in the towns the same as you, and we have a vested interest in making them safe for our own families, as well as yours.

At this time of year, when people travel to share Christmas and New Year with loved ones, please show care and consideration, both in your homes and on the roads.

We spare a thought for the family and friends of the Queensland police officers who tragically lost their lives last week, for they will be missed dearly this Christmas.

Whilst we are working around the clock — including Christmas Day for many of us — we would prefer it to be a quiet day, so we can get home to celebrate the same as you. From all the police officers right across the Mid West-Gascoyne district, we wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
