Chad James Broad: 46yo man pleads not guilty to raping 12yo girl at derelict Batavia Motor Inne in Geraldton

A 46-year-old man has pleaded not guilty to allegations he raped a 12 year-old girl inside Geraldton’s derelict Batavia Motor Inne twice, once while in the company of someone else. Chad James Broad appeared in Geraldton Magistrates Court from Hakea Prison on Monday where he entered pleas of not guilty to sexual penetration of a child under 13 years, aggravated penetration of a child under 13 years and aggravated indecent dealing of a child under 13 years. At a hearing in May, the court was told Mr Broad and another man took the girl into a room at the abandoned motel on Fitzgerald Street after she was allegedly given alcohol. It is alleged that Mr Broad groped and raped the girl twice between 2pm and 4pm on Wednesday, March 15. Magistrate Angus Hockton told Mr Broad in court his defence had received all the evidence against him and his trial date would be set in December. Mr Broad will appear back in court via video link on Wednesday, December 13 to list a trial date. Bail was not considered. The Batavia Motor Inne has been a hot spot for criminal activity, homelessness and antisocial behaviour in recent years, with the community calling for the site to be demolished. Contractors moved in late September and flattened three buildings, but work has since come to a halt.
