Cervantes final quarter brings them home against Dandaragan while Lancelin claim second victory of the season

A five goal final quarter gave Cervantes a comeback win against Dandaragan over the weekend. After suffering their only loss of the season to the Saints in round six, it looked like the Tiger Sharks were going to suffer the same fate this week after a back and forward game. The game looked to be in the Saints favour early as they went up by three goals in the first quarter sitting at 4.2 (26) to 1.2 (8). Although Dandaragan only managed three behinds in the second term Cervantes packed on the scoring to go up by a goal heading into half time. It was the Saints who came out firing to start the third, kicking three goals and three behinds but they managed to hold the Tiger Sharks to only two behinds. In a game that saw the teams trade quarters, Cervantes brought it home with a massive five goal final quarter to claim the 10.9 (69) to 8.10 (58) win over Dandaragan, who only managed one goal in the final term. The Tiger Sharks Isaac Devitt-Boyd’s two goals for the game wasn’t enough to maintain league leader for goals kicked as four goals from teammate James Venturini gave him the top spot. And a three-goal effort from the Saints’ Campbell Putland was not enough to bring home the win. Dandaragan saw success in the hockey, claiming a 4-2 win over Cervantes with two scores coming from the Saints’ Brooke Kenny. Moora failed to replicate their round one efforts against Lancelin which brought the team their sole win, as the Pirates nab their second win of the year. The Mavericks managed to get an early jump over the Pirates, taking a five-point lead at the end of the first, but the Pirates responded with a seven goal second quarter and never looked back. Despite Lancelin’s inaccuracy on goal, they claimed the 13.18 (96) to 5.10 (40) victory over Moora. The winning side shared the ball around as the Pirates had nine individual goal kickers, even with Kade Screaigh nabbing three goals, while Moora had a three goal effort from Bill Jones. In netball Dandaragan downed Cervantes 63-33 to keep pressure on Jurien Bay in first while Lancelin smashed Moora 45-26 as the Mavericks remain without a win in 2023. Dandaragan also had a win the hockey 4-2 with two goals to Brooke Kenny and singles to Ella Charlton and Cheyenne Piper sealing the win.
