Carnarvon Police charge boy, 14 for alleged burglary as they continue investigating second unrelated break in

Carnarvon Police have been busy dealing with burglaries following a reported “quiet” period in the town that was not so long ago considered crime-plagued. Local police say after weeks without a burglary in Carnarvon, they had two in one week. Police arrested a 14-year-old boy on Wednesday, August 23, and charged him with burglary with intent following a break-in on Monday, August 21 about 8.40pm. It is alleged the teenager gained entry into a property in Morgantown and damaged a number of walls inside the building. The boy appeared in Carnarvon Children’s Court from custody on August 23 when he was remanded in custody to reappear on Tuesday, September 5. Carnarvon Police continue to investigate a second, unrelated burglary that occurred between 3.30pm on Thursday, August 17 and 8am the following day. Police allege unknown suspects entered a vacant shed on an isolated property and stole a number of items. Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them on 9941 7333 and remind the community to remain vigilant and call them following any suspicious behaviour as soon as possible. Crime has reportedly dropped since tough liquor restrictions were introduced several months ago. “The entire town looks and feels quieter,” Shire president Eddie Smith said. “It’s a great place to live at the moment - it has made a significant difference . . . Carnarvon is looking up, it’s very positive.”
