Carnarvon detectives charge 11 people for 117 drug-related offences involving meth, heroin and cocaine

Carnarvon Police have charged 11 people with more than 100 charges over the distribution of methamphetamine, heroin and cocaine in the Gascoyne town following an investigation that started in January. Carnarvon detectives finalised part of an investigation into the importation and distribution of drugs within Carnarvon, charging 11 people with a total of 117 offences and seizing 30g of cannabis, 3.5g of cocaine, 17.5g of heroine, 26.5g of methamphetamine and just under $18,000 cash. Carnarvon Detectives Sergeant Andrew Southall said drugs such as methamphetamine were a major driver of volume crime offending in Carnarvon and the quantity would have had a “massive impact” on the town. “Taking this amount of drugs out of Carnarvon is expected to have a big impact on those sorts of offences,” he said. Det. Sgt Southall estimated the street value of the drugs would be about $108,000. Detectives are continuing with the investigation. The recent drug operation comes after more than 20 arrests were made and more than 50 charges laid this time last month in a bid to combat rising crime and antisocial behaviour in Carnarvon. Between March 27-31 a “pro-active” operation was carried by officers and detectives from Carnarvon and Geraldton and K-9 officers from Perth. Vehicle searches along North West Coastal Highway led to a number of drug seizures, including cannabis and DMT, and three people charged with driving under the influence of drugs. In that operation, 100g of cannabis was seized and 21 people charged with 56 offences, including possessing a prohibited drug with intent to sell or supply and knowingly allowing a premise to be used for drug use. The most recent bust resulted in a 45-year-old man charged with possession of a prohibited drug with intent to sell or supply, offer to supply prohibited drug to another, attempt to possess prohibited drug with intent to sell/supply, possess a prohibited drug, failure to obey data access order and property laundering. He will appear in Carnarvon District Court on Wednesday, July 26. A 44-year-old man was charged with supplied a prohibited drug, possession of a prohibited drug and possess stolen or unlawfully obtained property. He will appear in Perth Magistrates Court on Wednesday, May 31. A 48-year-old female was charged with supplied a prohibited drug, offer to sell or supply a prohibited drug to another, conspired to sell or supply methamphetamine, property laundering and possess a prohibited drug and will face Geraldton Magistrates Court on Monday, May 15. A 48-year-old man was charged with supplied a prohibited drug and attempt to possess a prohibited drug with intent to sell or supply and will face Carnarvon Magistrates Court on Monday, May 22. A 34-year-old woman was charged with supplying a prohibited drug, offering to sell or supply a prohibited drug, possessing a prohibited drug and possess drug paraphernalia in which there was a prohibited drug. She is due to appear in Carnarvon Magistrates Court on Monday, May 15. A 37-year-old man, 33-year-old man, 51-year-old man, 60-year-old man, a 26-year-old woman and 57-year-old woman were charged with drug related offences and will appear in court in May.
