Car crash in West End of Geraldton likely caused power outage in nearby suburbs

Power was cut to hundreds of homes in Geraldton’s CBD and West End on Tuesday morning, with an early morning car crash likely to blame. Locals believe around 5.30am on Tuesday, a car collided with a pole on Marine Terrace in the West End. A resident reported hearing a loud bang around that time before the power went out. A badly damaged sedan was seen later on Tuesday morning on a footpath near power poles. A Western Power spokesperson said an incident report was created at 6.15am after a car reportedly hit a pole. Crews arrived on site at 8.50am to assess the damage with the estimated restoration time scheduled for 10am. Police had been notified and at the time of publication were still investigating the incident. Traffic officer-in-charge Sgt Ron Pace said day shift officers were following up with night shift, but understood police had attended the scene. “We’re aware of it but details are sketchy,” Sgt Pace said. “Someone came across a power line down with a damaged car nearby.”
