Geraldton’s Callum Williamson remains in the top three of the Maddington Toyota Sprint Car series despite another DNF over the weekend at the Perth Motorplex.

Saturday night saw the running of the Krikke Boys Shootout and Williamson coming off third place at the Australian Championships looked quick once again.

After qualifying fourth he smashed the first heat of the night finishing 1.7 seconds clear of Kye Scoop and qualifying second for the A main dash.

In the dash Williamson was solid once again well clear in second place finishing 2.4 seconds down on winner Kerry Madsen.

This would see him start on the second row for the feature behind Madsen and Australian Champion Jock Goodyer.

After a slow start, due to multiple cautions, the race pace finally picked up with Kerry Madsen the early leader from Lachlan McHugh, Goodyer, Williamson and Kris Coyle.

There was little to separate the quintet until Madsen had a spin sending him to the back of the field and elevating Williamson to third in a titanic battle with Goodyer.

However, disaster struck with four laps to go as a tag with the wall on the back straight caused Williamson’s right tyre to deflate and end his night.

McHugh would go on to win the race finishing one place better than his championships run.

“Unfortunately, it was not the way we would have liked to finish the night,” the team said.

“But we had great car speed and a lot of positives to take away.”

Williamson still holds on to third place despite his third DNF of the season behind Jason Kendrick and just ahead of Dayne Kinghsott.
