Queens Supa IGA has become the latest Geraldton business to install a community defibrillator after a donation from an anonymous good Samaritan.

Defibrillators are lifesaving devices that deliver electrical energy to a person’s heart when it has stopped pumping.

If accessed quickly, it can give cardiac arrest victims a far higher chance of survival before an ambulance arrives.

There are about 3800 defibrillators registered across Australia under the St John Community First Responder program.

The program allows bystanders who call triple-0 in an emergency to be advised where the nearest defibrillator is.

Meanwhile, another store owned by the local Rigters Supermarket Group, Rigters Supa IGA, has been named fresh produce retailer of the year (regional store) at Market West’s WA Fresh Produce Retailer of the Year Awards.
