Two men who were allegedly caught carrying half a million dollars worth of methamphetamine in their car have made their first appearances in court.

Steven Laurence Austin, 51, and Aaryn James Trousdale, 43, were allegedly caught in a random traffic stop in South Greenough on Tuesday, February 7 when police found 489 grams of methamphetamine in a box in the back of a Toyata HiLux.

Police previously said they believed the methamphetamine, estimated to be worth $500,000, would be transported to towns across the Mid West.

The two appeared via video-link from custody on Monday, charged with possessing a trafficable quantity of methamphetamine with intent to sell or supply.

Mr Austin’s defence was unable to appear in court and will return on February 23, while Mr Trousdale will reappear for legal advice on March 20.
