Carnarvon and Shark Bay residents can expect to be flying to and from Perth with Regional Express Airlines next financial year.

A Transport department spokesman said Rex would enter into a five-year deed of agreement with the State, subject to successful negotiations

“Details of schedules and air fares will be announced once the deeds have been signed in early 2018,” he said.

“The current deeds of agreement between the State Government and Skippers expire on July 1, 2018.

“The (State) Government acknowledges the air services provided by Skippers to these communities for many years.”

Although Rex is not well known in WA, a company spokesperson said it was Australia’s largest independent regional airline, servicing 60 destinations throughout all States in Australia.

Rex has been flying passengers on the Perth-Esperance and Perth-Albany routes since February 2016.
