Mid West karaoke fans can sung their hearts out recently at two open mic nights in Geraldton and Dongara.

The Freemasons Hotel in Geraldton gave the stage to musos on March 10 while karaoke fans also found a place to let loose at Dongara Hotel Motel the same night.

The Midwest Times compiled a list of songs established and aspiring singers might like to try during the next round of karaoke. Hopefully these tunes don’t get stuck in your head!

Top 10 karaoke songs:

1)The Horses — Daryl Braithwaite

That’s the way it’s gonna be, little darlin’. This early 1990s Australia Day favourite has enjoyed a resurgence in pubs in recent years.

2)Hey Jude — The Beatles

Arguably one of the world’s best tunes, Hey Jude’s repetitive Nah, nah nah, nah nah, nah, nah, nah nah lyrics makes this Beatles hit a sing-along song for the whole pub.

3)Wind Beneath My Wings — Bette Midler

Did you ever know that you’re my hero, and everything I would like to be? If you’re going to choose this karaoke hit, why not start by dedicating your rendition to a special, supportive someone? There won’t be a dry eye in the house!

4) Dancing Queen — ABBA

Ooh, see that girl, watch that scene, dig in the dancing queen. We had a hard time deciding between this song and the 1975 hit Mamma Mia, but Dancing Queen’s slower pace means it can be tackled by more people.

5)You’re The Voice — John Farnham

Oh-whoa-whoa-whoa, oh-whoa-whoa-whoa! Mid West residents who like to shout would enjoy singing this Australian classic, which requires a powerful voice to tear into the chorus.

6)Ironic — Alanis Morissette

Isn’t it ironic, don’t you think? Alanis lists a series of unlucky situations in this famous 1990s hit, and while they don’t quite meet the traditional definition of the word “irony”, they still make for a great song.

7)The Special Two — Missy Higgins

This early millennium Australian hit truly tugs on the heart and may resonate with many listeners.

8)Don’t Stop Believin’ — Journey

Just a small town girl, livin’ in a lonely world! This upbeat 1981s hit has simple verses and an easy-to-remember chorus.

9) Party Rock Anthem — LMFAO ft Lauren Bennett

This 2011 hit reached No.1 on the charts in Australia, started the shuffling phenomenon and threw electro-pop into the spotlight. This is definitely a song for rappers who like to put on a show. Party rock is in the house tonight!

10) Bohemian Rhapsody — Queen

Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy? Caught in a landslide, no escape from reality! A unique mixture of slow and upbeat tempos helps establish this song as a rock-genre giant. This is probably the hardest song to master on the list — we wish you luck!
