Perth man mistakes $2.5 million division one Lotto win for just $920
A Perth man has revealed the moment he realised he had won millions after mistaking his division one Lotto win for just $920.
The Kenwick resident in his 60s said he missed one of the winning numbers in Saturday’s Superdraw when he initially checked his ticket.
“I thought I had five of the numbers and won $920, which I was very happy about,” he said.
“I went back to the newsagency later that week and was in complete shock when the staff told me I had actually won $2.5 million.
The new millionaire said he hopes to spend his winnings on travel, helping his children with their mortgages and purchasing a house on the coast.
Lotterywest spokesperson Zoe Wender said the lucky local is the 38th division one winner in WA this year, with the winners sharing a pool of $45 million.
“WA players make Lotterywest grants possible, and last Saturday’s Superdraw alone raised more than $3.3 million for our grants program,” Ms Wender said.
The win comes just one week after an Aussie took home more than $4 million after becoming the sole winner of the division one Powerball prize and two weeks after an Apsley woman scooped up the entire $100 million Powerball.
The Queensland mum, who bought the winning ticket at Nextra Chermside Newsagency in Brisbane, told The Lott she almost lost the winning ticket.
“I was shopping the other day, and it’s coming up to my birthday, so I thought ‘Why not?’ and purchased a Powerball ticket.
“The funny thing is too, I almost lost it! I had to pull over on the way home from the shops because I thought I had left it there.
“After that, I put it in my glovebox, and I completely forgot about it until this morning”, she said.
