iMessage has experienced a worldwide outage, with hundreds of reports that people are unable to send messages.

At least 500 Australians have reported problems with their iMessage service to Down Detector in the last 24 hours.

Apple’s System Status website has reported there was an issue with iMessage between 7.49am and 8.35am on Friday, however it says the issue has since been resolved.

“Some users were affected,” the website said.

“Users were unable to use this service.”

The issue is being reported in America and Australia.

Some messages are being sent as text messages, while others are taking extra time to send.

People have flocked to X – formerly Twitter – to vent about the outage and work out why they can’t send texts.

“Is it just me, or is anyone else’s iMessage not sending messages?,” one person wrote.

“Me running to twitter to see if everyone else’s imessage decided to stop working,” another said.
