Waroona Memorial Hall hosts Seniors Ageing Well Expo 2024 offering essential services to seniors

A host of essential services gathered in Waroona, all with the goal of helping seniors age well. The Community Resource Centre partnered with the shire of Waroona last week to bring the community the Waroona Seniors Ageing Well Expo 2024. Organisations set up in the town hall to help give seniors the tools to live a happy and healthy life. Breastscreen WA, Dementia Australia, Peel Senior Relationship Service, MyAgedCare, and GP Down South were included, and there were live presentations from NBN Local, Peel Community Legal, LiveUp, and the shire’s own fitness instructor. Waroona CRC programs co-ordinator Candice Looke said it was the second time the centre had hosted the expo. “Last year we did a smaller Ageing Well event at the centre, which was really well received by the community, but this year we thought we would work in collaboration with the shire and run it over Seniors Week to try and make it bigger and better,” she said. Ms Looke said focusing on seniors was important in regional towns as they were a big demographic. “We are regional, we are isolated, and a lot of people don’t realise what is out there on offer,” she said. Shire community development officer Karen Godfrey said it was a great gathering. “I think a lot of people don’t know what they don’t know, so they aren’t aware what services are available to them,” she said. “We’re very thrilled.” Ms Looke said organisers planned to make the expo an annual event, and said those who had missed the event could still access all the services year-round. “All these services come to the centre on a regular basis,” she said. “Whether it’s to see clients or facilitate a workshop, they come in, and if a client wants to see them, we can refer you. “It’s really important for people to realise the amazing work they do.”
