Upper Great Southern and Great Southern net impressive results at D’Arcy Slater and Women in Tennis cups

Upper Great Southern and Great Southern competed strongly at Tennis WA’s largest regional junior tennis tournament held in Bunbury last week. The annual D’Arcy Slater Cup and Women In Tennis Foundation Cup brought more than 140 players from across the State to Bunbury to compete for regional supremacy. Upper Great Southern and Great Southern both came close to the ultimate success, the former finishing third in the D’Arcy Slater Cup while Great Southern was pipped by neighbours Lower Great Southern for the Women in Tennis Foundation Cup. Great Southern was also beaten by Lower Great Southern in the girls and boys division two tournaments and Upper Great Southern was runner-up in the boys division three. Ebony Westlake and Brooke Milne led the way for Great Southern girls’ division one silver medal-winning team, winning seven of their 10 matches, while Hannah Bignell and Alice Bushell fought valiantly. In the singles events, several players delivered exceptional performances. For Upper Great Southern, Nikita Ness emerged victorious in girls division two, defeating Lower Great Southern’s Maggie O’Meehan and in the boys under-10, Upper Great Southern’s Noah Wilkie defeated Central Districts’ Ben Waylor. Tamzyn Kirby won the girls division one consolation final and Upper Great Southern also had three other representatives in the consolation finals, Tristan Turton, Lucia Tapper and Georgia Armstrong all finishing runner-up. Grace Orr was the only Great Southern competitor winning after taking the girls under-14 division four consolation final.
