The State Government is set to offer discounted airfares for people travelling to Geraldton for this year’s Shore Leave festival, in a bid to make visiting the Mid West easier for people in metropolitan WA.

From Thursday, February 13, 150 tickets at $150 each will be made available from Perth to Geraldton from April 19 to 25, while a further 150 flights from Geraldton to Perth from April 24 to 29 will also be on sale.

The flights are set to be through Nexus Airlines, for the festival that celebrates the Mid West’s maritime heritage, culture and seafood.

Tourism Minister Rita Saffioti said easing access for flights would help boost the local economy.

“Shore Leave is a fantastic showcase of Geraldton’s renowned seafood, local produce and unique tourism experiences and, importantly, attracts thousands of people each year, including many from outside the region,” she said.

“This flight deal is a great incentive to encourage more people to attend and I encourage visitors to secure their spot early to make the most of this chance to experience everything the Mid West has to offer.

“Regional events add vibrancy to regional communities and provide a boost for local tourism and hospitality businesses in the region, which helps diversify our economy.”

This year’s festival will be the first to be run by a team of locals, with an aim to upskill and engage more people in the region.

The five-day festival will begin on Wednesday, April 23.
