Shannon Cox: Former AFL player remanded in custody after home detention deemed “unsuitable” by report

Former AFL player Shannon Cox, charged over a double fatal crash, will have to wait until next Wednesday to find out if he will be released on bail again. An email from Mr Cox’s defence counsel read in Geraldton Magistrates Court on Monday revealed a home detention assessment for Mr Cox’s address was deemed “unsuitable”. However, defence counsel Paul Holmes wrote in the email that he would be pursuing another home detention assessment for the address. The matter was adjourned to Wednesday, November 27. Mr Cox was charged earlier this year with manslaughter in regard to a crash on Brand Highway which resulted in the deaths of Jurien Bay women Coral Seinor, 83, and Thelma Clausen, 82. It was alleged in June that a Toyota Prado, a Volvo road train towing two trailers and a Suzuki Ignis collided on Brand Highway in the town of Cooljarloo. The two women died at the scene. Mr Cox is yet to enter pleas. He was previously on bail but faced court earlier this month due to giving a positive sample when tested. The 38-year-old was taken as a rookie by Collingwood in 2005, and played 25 games for the Pies before retiring ahead of the 2010 season. He cited a loss of passion for the game as the reason for retirement and most recently played for Rovers in the Great Northern Football League.
