Three of Great Northern’s finest will represent the State when Country Football WA take on SA Country in a clash this weekend.

The trio of Northampton’s Harry Taylor and Chapman Valley brothers Jayden and Kim Schofield were among the 23 players selected for the State team following their performance at country week.

New Hollands Country Football men’s side will hit the ground running for the annual clash at Adelaide Oval on Sunday, playing the curtain-raiser for the Crows versus Hawthorn match.

WA has previously struggled in the match-up, posting a 3-7 record in the past 10 games, but got up by 45 points last year against SA at Optus Stadium, which both Schofield brothers played a role in.

Their selection comes off the back of Great Northern’s success at country week, bringing home the flag after winning the division two grand final over Central Midlands Coastal.

The WA side boasts five former AFL players, including both Taylor and Jayden Schofield, and will be coached by Michael Griffiths.

WA Football commission country football manager Kane Benson said he was optimistic about the squad heading over to Adelaide.

“While historically WA have struggled to come away with a win from Adelaide Oval, we are very confident that we have selected a team that will be able to turn the tables this time around,” Benson said.

“It’s an exciting time for Country Football WA with so many players making themselves available and playing such great footy at club and league level.”

Taylor has been named the squad’s starting full-forward and Jayden Schofield at half-back, while the Bud Byfield division two’s best player winner Kim Schofield is on the interchange.

Across the other Mid West talent, reigning CMCFL best and fairest winner Todd Kenny from Dandaragan was named in the back pocket in the 23-man squad.
