Chapman Valley have shattered league records with their merciless 51.21 (327) to 4.2 (26) shellacking of Mullewa, the biggest win in Great Northern Football League history.

The history books were rewritten on Saturday with Chapman Valley’s win breaking the previous record for highest score in a GNFL game, biggest margin for a win and biggest aggregate score in a single game.

Valley went into the game without player-coach Jayden Schofield or Kim Schofield, who were both in South Australia representing the State.

Despite that, the side put up the historic performance with a scoring avalanche at Mullewa Oval.

After a nine-goal opening quarter, Chapman Valley bettered that in the second term, piling on 14 goals before half-time while keeping the Saints scoreless in the second quarter.

The Royals followed up with 10 more goals after half-time to bring their total to 210 points.

With a 185-point lead heading into the final quarter, the Royals clearly weren’t satisfied and booted another 18.8 to Mullewa’s 0.1 in the closing term.

Stuart Egan (13), Tyrone Papertalk Jr (11) and Daniel Borgogno (10) etched their name into history, becoming the first trio of teammates to each kick 10 goals or more in a single GNFL game.

Fourteen out of the 22 Chapman Valley players scored a goal during the landmark win.

According to league stats expert Victor Tanti, it was the highest-ever score in a GNFL game (previous best was Railways’ 44.31 (295) against Mullewa in 2011), the biggest margin for win (beating the previous biggest of Mullewa’s 219-point win over Northampton in 2013) and the biggest aggregate score for a single game (passing the previous best of 335 points between Railways and Mullewa in 2011).

Over at GBSC Sports park, in the clash between top-four sides, Brigades failed to capitalise on opportunities against reigning grand finalists Northampton and suffered an 8.10 (58) to 7.5 (47) defeat.

The Rams took an early lead with an early goal from a Jack Cripps free kick.

Despite a well-crafted goal from Brigades star Jack Deschamp, the Rams headed into the first break with a 2.2 (14) to 1.2 (8) lead.

Brigades took the Rams by the figurative horns leading up to half-time, closing the gap to just one point after Jamie Ryder and Dion Dann managed to get the Hawks back in the contest, with Brigades’ midfield players running the game in the middle of the park.

Northampton held a one-point lead at half-time.

In the second half, Brigades moved the ball quickly through the forward line and managed to challenge the enthusiastic Rams defence.

Hassan Ahmat-Watkins kept Brigades in the game with a goal late in the final term.

However, it was the Northampton attack that ultimately won the game, with Jamie Williams scoring from 20m out in the final minutes.

The Rams solidified their second-place spot on the ladder with the 11-point win, with Trent Simpson booting three for Northampton, along with Cripps and Albert Dean kicking two each.

Ahmat-Watkins, Dann and Ryder all slotted a pair of goals for the Hawks.

Railways have solidified their spot in the top four after taking down Towns 11.8 (74) to 7.11 (53) at Wonthella Oval on Saturday.

Towns struggled in attack during the second quarter, kicking just 0.3 to Railways’ 4.4 in the term. The Blues enjoyed a comfortable 29-point lead at half-time.

Despite a comeback from the Bulldogs in the second half, Railways kept pace and held on to their lead and took home the points.

Shaedan Edwards was the match winner for Railways with three goals, while Timothy Bowdell and Jaylen Parsons each put through two for Towns.

The Blues have found some form in recent weeks, with their fourth-straight win putting them one game clear at third on the ladder.

Across the rest of the GNFL, the Northampton women’s side got up over Brigades 10.5 (65) to 0.2 (2) while Mullewa forfeited against Chapman Valley.

The Bulldogs blew away Railways in the reserves with a 11.4 (70) to 0.0 (0) win, Northampton got the choccies against Brigades in the 8.2 (50) to 6.5 (41) clash and the Saints again forfeited against Chapman Valley.

The Mullewa colts side brought home a 9.11 (65) to 5.7 (37) win for the club against the Royals, while the Rams colts got through with a tight 7.9 (51) to 7.5 (47) win over the Hawks and Railways beat Towns 8.12 (60) to 3.0 (18).
