A local star and Buccaneer has earned his spot on the national stage, with Tomas Dobson selected for the under-20 men’s state team to compete at the Australian U20 Championships.

After two COVID-interrupted years, the tournament is back to its usual calendar slot of mid-February and will be held in Geelong.

The Australian Junior Championships are the pinnacle event for emerging athletes on a national stage as the teams compete to be crowned National Champion.

Basketball WA revealed the squad last week, with Dobson making the cut for the combined metro and country team.

Dosbon is in fine form locally. He leads the Pumas’ scoring charts, averaging 20.5 points per game as well as being the third most prolific three-point shooter in the local league.

He also made appearances off the bench for the Buccs this season though only logged more than five minutes on four occasions, averaging 1.6 points per game.

The championships take place from February 14 to 19.
