Chris Brown: Betting whiz kid hasn’t complied with court order to hand over electronic devices to receivers

Besieged betting scheme promoter Chris Brown has not complied with court orders made requiring him to give his phones, electronic devices and business records to receivers hunting $126 million for creditors. The ongoing non-compliance was revealed in the Federal Court today when Mr Brown was given until next week to explain why he has not handed over his computers, phones, storage devices, passwords and betting account log-in information. Having not complied with the orders since April 27, Mr Brown today claimed he could only access vital records once his Queensland-based bankruptcy-trustee had couriered his main mobile phone back to Perth. Mr Brown, who was declared bankrupt on May 10, said he needed that phone for two-factor authentication and access to his main email account. “That phone contains a lot of evidence,” said Mr Brown. Court-appointed receivers from KPMG have been trying since March 25 to hunt down Mr Brown’s purported fortune reportedly held in share trading, bank and betting accounts. The receivership push was made by a group of six wealthy creditors who Mr Brown admitted owing $126m. But The West Australian has since learned he has dozens of backers for his schemes going back as far as 2016. Receivers’ lawyer Justin Daly said the April 20 orders requiring Mr Brown to hand over devices, passwords and records pre-dated him having to give his mobile phone to the bankruptcy trustee. When asked by Justice Darren Jackson today whether the receivers were pressing for compliance with the orders, Mr Daly said they were aware of potential matters of contempt of court which the judge had “indicated might be considered”. “We are content to wait for Mr Brown’s affidavit,” Mr Daly said.
